The Blessing and Benefit of Local Church Membership (Selected Scriptures)

In an age where commitment is largely frowned upon, and where comfort, ease, and low expectations are the norm, the Lord Jesus, who died for His Church, calls us as Christians to be highly committed participants rather than passive spectators in a healthy, local church.

A Charge to the Pastor (1 Peter 5:1-4)

Pastor George Lawson of Baltimore Bible Church in Timonium, MD gave a “Charge to the Pastor” during the Installation Service for Pastor Kempiz. Pastor George encouraged Pastor Kempiz and his fellow elders to look to Jesus, the Great Shepherd, as they eagerly and faithfully shepherd the flock of Eastridge.

Responsibilities of Elders (1 Peter 5:1-5)

Peter gives us three responsibilities in the church so that we would live with each other in a God-honoring way.

Qualification for Elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7)

Our sovereign God is building His church by leading all in His church to greater Christlikeness, and by calling men out of His church body to exercise oversight.
